BLOG: Keeping Fit at CORTE This Spring

Long Island City is unlike any other neighborhood in New York, with its singular mix of newly transformed spaces and industrial chic. Here, you will find architecture and interiors that are both inspiring and expansive, embodied by places such as MoMA PS1 and the LIC luxury condos at CORTE. And so, it’s no wonder that the design of the fitness center at CORTE is a game changer with its sense of calm simplicity and beauty that will transform your workout into both a physical and an aesthetic pleasure. With wood-paneled walls, large skylights, and a view onto one of CORTE’s landscaped internal gardens, the fitness center gives the impression of a portal to a place of focus and inspiration, much like the light-filled rooms at nearby gallery spaces in PS1 and the Sculpture Center.

With an exercise oasis right in your building, you can take full advantage of all it has to offer and choose what your body needs on any given day. Wake up and do a brisk set of sun salutations under the skylight, energize your weekend with sessions on the stationary bikes or treadmills, or make a spontaneous after-work date with the boxer’s punching bag.

To mix things up, you can expand your routine at an assortment of local gyms and yoga studios where you can learn from top-notch instructors and connect with your community.

All within a few blocks of CORTE, and of each other, sister studios Workout Factory, PilatesWorks, and The Yoga Room bring the very best teachers and technology in a triumvirate of the most popular workouts for 2019. Martin Kerestes and Zhana Galijasevic, the husband and wife owners of Workout Factory, bring deep roots in the neighborhood along with their exceptional teaching to each of these studios. When they opened a new Workout Factory location in a 4000-square-foot space by the LIC waterfront, Hayley Bridgewater of QNS paid them a visit and discovered that “WF is introducing the Stages Indoor Cycling Bike and the accompanying state-of-the-art fitness technology to the western Queens fitness scene, and it produces a one-of-a-kind spinning experience. Galijasevic gave me a thorough tutorial on the bike, and having been on many other spin bikes, I would easily pick this one every time.”

Another fitness gem in the neighborhood is Pranavah Yoga, offering Ashtanga and Iyengar yoga classes, as well as instruction in the Classic Barre technique, all in a deeply soothing environment. At Beyond Movement, you will find a welcome challenge in boxing, body sculpting, and boot camp classes, while at CrossFit Gantry, you can find unique mind-body experiences, such as their offering “Muay Thai for the Mind & Body: Psychology, Neuroscience and Thai Boxing COMBINED.” It’s a class that will remind you of how life in LIC feeds both body and soul.
