BLOG: A Cozy, Snowy Sunday at CORTE

With temperatures remaining at arctic levels, and snow continuing to scatter, you'd be forgiven for treating yourself to the occasional cozy Sunday indoors. CORTE is flush with all the amenities and extras to ensure that your next snow day will be a luxurious one. And Long Island City itself offers a plethora of foodie creature comforts, which you can have delivered directly to your condo door. Bring on the cold.

A Slow Start

Begin your cozy Sunday at CORTE by doing nothing at all. Nothing, that is, except making the most of your apartment's floor-to-ceiling windows. Designed by the award-winning Dieguez Fridman and Beyer Blinder Belle, these portals to the frosty world outside allow you to gaze out over Long Island City — hot chocolate in hand — and survey the landscape from the comfort of your sofa. Next, wrap up warm and take an invigorating walk on the landscaped common roof deck, while drinking in the LIC cityscape.

Warming Up

Now it's time to get into the swing of things. Head to CORTE's on-site fitness center and run a few miles on the treadmill or hit the weight machines. No navigating icy sidewalks for you today. After your workout, crash in the resident's lounge with a warming whiskey and a newspaper — bliss. If you happen to be in charge of the kids, they can warm up in the building’s own kids room. Bear in mind, however, that you may be coaxed outside and roped into a snowball fight at some point — snow days are not sacred for everyone. We recommend a jaunt to nearby Gantry Plaza State Park or Murray Park for that.

Ordering In

A snow day is not a day for going out to eat. Instead, order in from one of the many local restaurants. That chilly weather might have you craving a Buckaroo Burger — made with smoked brisket and smoke sauce — from Bareburger. They do comfort food with a conscience, offering “local, organic, and sustainable burgers, shakes, salads, fries, and sides.” And they deliver. The chicken noodle soup or panang curry from Tuk Tuk are great for winter eating, too. (We won't judge you for devouring them under the duvet in the comfort of your apartment.) Or how about a tongue-tingling feast, courtesy of Casa Enrique? Put on your favorite movie, and tuck into albondigas en chipotle (meatballs in a chipotle-tomato sauce) and fresh-made enchiladas, stuffed with chili, black beans, and cheese. At this rate you'll be just fine with not to seeing the sun until June.
